Manassas Young Marines

Activity Details

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country.  Red Ribbon Week generally takes place the last full week in October.

Red Ribbon Week is a major mission of the Young Marines.  This year, Manassas participated by having each Young Marine make drug demand resistance posters for their school classroom.  With permission from their teacher, each Young Marine was to display the poster and discuss drug prevention and resistance with their classmates. Students were then encouraged to sign a pledge to stay drug free.

Veteran's Appreciation Campaign:  The purpose of the campaign is to challenge our youth to dedicate some of their time to help our veterans, and demonstrate, through their actions their sincere appreciation for our veterans’ service to our country.  During the week‐long tribute, Young Marine units have the opportunity to design their own project that is most fitting in their local community.

Manassas Young Marines honor Vets with care packages for deployed troops, marching in the City of Manassaas Veteran's Day Parade and having veterans from all branches of the military join us for our celebration of the Marine Corps Birthday on November 10th of each year.  Each Veteran attending gets a certificate of appreciation from the Unit.

Raising Awareness of the American Flag:  The week of June 14th each year has been designated as "National Flag Week".  During this time period the President of the United Stats will issue a proclamation urging U.S. Citizens to fly the American flag for the dureatin of the week.  Manassas Young Marines works to get our community ready for this event by selling American Flag yard signs.  Young Marines are encouraged to pass along the knowledge they learn from the Young Marines Program to their community. They pass along the history of the flag, proper flag display, ediquette and disposal.
